History of Softball

The Origin

Softball originated in Chicago on Thanksgiving Day 1887 at the Farragut Boat Club. George Hancock spontaneously invented it as an indoor game using a rolled-up boxing glove and a broomstick. It quickly evolved into an independent sport designed as a safer and more flexible indoor alternative to baseball.

The Path to Germany

After World War II, American soldiers brought the sport to Germany. What started as a recreational activity on military bases rapidly developed into a popular club sport. Today, softball is firmly organized under the German Baseball and Softball Federation (DBV).

Slowpitch in Heidenheim

Softball has a proud tradition in Heidenheim as well. On Menzel Field (Rauhbuch Ballpark), our slowpitch team combines athletic passion with a great sense of community. For us, the fun of the game and team spirit always come first.
